Construction & Demolition Waste
Show All Answers
1.
Can I burn or bury my old shed?
In most cases, no. Minnesota Law prohibits the burning or burial of most wastes. This includes demolition wastes. Contact the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency to find out how these rules might apply in your situation at (800) 657-3864.
2.
I am a contractor. Do I need a commercial hauler license to haul construction and demolition(C&D) waste to the Pilgrim Landfill?
No. A County Solid Waste Hauler license is not required when hauling C&D waste to a C&D landfill. However, if you collect C&D waste and bring it to the Ponderosa, you may need a hauler license, because the Ponderosa is an MSW landfill.
3.
How do I dispose of asbestos related materials?
The Pilgrim Demolition landfill and the Ponderosa Landfills both accept asbestos containing material (ACM). ACM must be properly handled, packaged and tracked prior to disposal. Contact the
Ponderosa Landfill
or Pilgrim Landfill at (507) 388-3122 prior to bringing any ACM to the Ponderosa.

4.
I want to demolish a structure. Do I need to contact anyone before I do?
Contact the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency ((800)657-3864) prior to demolishing your structure. In some cases, asbestos inspections may be required prior to demolition. A pre-demolition notification may also be required.
5.
What construction and demolition (C&D) waste can be recycled?
Costs of demolition can be reduced if C&D materials are recycled or reused. Many materials can be recycled or reused if they are removed prior to demolition. Visit the
MPCA C&D recycling page
for ideas on C&D recycling, reuse or deconstruction.
