The Blue Earth County Library System has launched a new online service. “Ask a Book Nerd” provides personalized recommendations for patrons of all ages and interests. Since in-person browsing at the library is limited due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this service offers patrons the pleasure and excitement of discovering new authors, topics, and titles from the comfort of their own homes. To use “Ask a Book Nerd”, patrons can visit beclibrary.org/247/Ask-a-Book-Nerd and fill out a brief form with their preferred reading formats, genres, subjects, and examples of favorite books. Separate forms are available for adults and children. A form is also available for K-12 students seeking assistance with research projects. Recommendations will be hand-picked by experienced library staff members and provided to the patron within two business days.
The “Ask a Book Nerd” initiative is part of a broader effort by the Blue Earth County Library System to continue providing resources, services, activities, and information to our community despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Mankato branch is open by appointment for browsing and computer, printer, copier, and microfilm access, with no-contact pick-up and books-by-mail options available. The Mapleton and Lake Crystal Library branches are open for no-contact pick-up only. All events, including a biweekly story time, weekly craft lessons, and a monthly book club, are taking place virtually through the library’s YouTube page, Facebook page, and Zoom.
