Public Drainage Assessment for Administration Costs, 30 Days of Biking!

Posted on April 1, 2016 at 1:55 PM by Acacia Wytaske

If you are a landowner with benefitted acres within a ditch watershed, you will notice a new assessment this year on your 2016 Property Tax Statement.

Know the facts. These questions and answers cover the basics but if you have additional questions, please feel free to contact me by email or phone. My contact information is listed at the bottom of each blog entry.

A: The Pub Drainage Assessment is the Public Drainage Assessment for Administration Costs, approved and authorized by the county board, which is applied to all parcels that have land with established benefits on a public drainage system.

Q: What is the assessment for?
A:  This assessment is to fund some of our departmental drainage expenses. This includes the management of the increasing amount of repair and improvement projects throughout the county drainage systems, additional resources across the systems for in-field work, ditch viewing, buffer law implementation requirements and dedicating additional staff to drainage work to keep projects moving.  Many Minnesota counties currently use this method as a means to finance ditch administration costs.

Q: How is the assessment calculated/determined?
A: Each parcel with benefited acres is charged approximately 0.78 cents per each benefitted acre, not to exceed parcel deeded acres. The minimum assessment is $2.00.

***Next week, I will be making a big announcement so be sure to check out the blog, but for now, I will leave you with this...

It's been a while since I've included pictures in the blog so today I'll share some bike pictures, what else!? ;)

Check out all the use the new bike racks are getting at the Blue Earth County Historic Courthouse! These pictures were both taken this week.
Did you know that this is the 7th year of a program called, "30 Days of Biking"?
30 Days of Biking is a pledge to ride your bike every day in April, any distance, any destination. For every 2 pledges, the organization donates $1 to World Bicycle Relief.  It's a perfect excuse to get outside and ride! Make your pledge today.
