Ditch Happenings Nov. 16th - 20th

Posted on November 20, 2015 at 2:33 PM by Acacia Wytaske

At this week's Board of Commissioner's Meeting, the JD09 (Le Ray Township) Preliminary Hearing Date was set for 9:45am on December 15th, 2015 at the Historical Courthouse.  Notices were mailed to the landowners on this system today. We will also hold an informational meeting to give landowners the opportunity to ask questions and give input to the engineer before ordering the final engineering report. Click on this link to view the preliminary engineering report, located on our DrainageDB portal. The informational meeting will be held at the Eagle Lake City Building on Thursday, December 10th, 2015 at 9:00am.

The multi-year drainage levies were approved by the board and two drainage inspection reports were also approved;
1. JD32 (Pleasant Mound Township) was approved to have a failing tile inlet repaired.
2. JJD36 (Butternut Valley Township) was approved to have a blowout repaired.

DrainageDB User Group -

On Wednesday, Craig Austinson and I attended a DrainageDB User Group meeting hosted by Brown County and led by Houston Engineering Inc, the software developer. The user group met to discuss how the DrainageDB software program is being used across the state by different counties, highlight recent enhancements and discuss possible new enhancements.

Blue Earth County currently uses the DrainageDB to record & track repairs and to store documents to share through the public portal.  One of the enhancements to the program that is just about ready to release is a mobile app that will allow ditch inspectors to use their phone or tablet to record an issue while out in the field. The location, pictures taken, and data entered will automatically be loaded into a report. Some of the enhancements that are on the discussion table include an assessment calculator based on landowner benefits, workflow processes, and budget tracking.

I gave a presentation on my blog during the user group meeting, as well.
