Important 2020 Election Dates

Key Public Dates  
January 17 Early absentee voting begins for Presidential Nomination Primary (PNP).
Ballots are mailed out for those precincts that vote by mail ballot.
February 11
Last day to pre-register to vote for PNP.
February 24 Direct ballot absentee voting (placing ballots directly in ballot counters) begins for PNP. 
February 25 Minnesota Party Caucus Day. Go to www.mnvotes.org for detailed information.
February 29 Extended hours from 10am - 3pm for in-person absentee voting at the Historic Courthouse.
March 2 Last day for in-person absentee voting for PNP (until 5pm). 
March 3 PNP Election Day. Most polling locations open 7am - 8pm.
May 19 Early candidate filing period opens for offices with a potential primary. 
June 2 Early candidate filing period ends at 5pm for offices with a potential primary. 
June 4 Candidate withdrawal deadline for offices with a potential primary.
June 26 Early absentee voting begins for Primary Election.

August 10 Last day for in-person absentee voting for the Primary Election (until 5pm). 
August 11 Primary Election Day. Most polling locations open 7am - 8pm.
Late candidate filing period closes at 5pm for offices without a primary.
August 13 Late candidate withdrawal deadline at 5pm for late filing period for offices without a primary.
September 18 Early absentee voting begins for General Election. 
October 13 Pre-registration ends for General Election. 
Last day to pre-register to vote. 
October 26 Direct ballot absentee voting (placing ballots directly in ballot counters) begins for General Election.
October 31 Extended hours from 10am - 3pm for in-person absentee voting at the Historic Courthouse.
November 2 Last day for in-person absentee voting for the General Election (5pm). 
November 3 General Election Day. Most polling locations open 7am - 8pm.
