- Pre-Service Training Requirements for Applicants
The applicant and each adult caregiver who provides care for more than 30 days in any 12-month period must complete 4 hours of child growth and development and behavior guidance training on "Developmentally Appropriate Behavior Guidance." Child growth and development and behavior guidance training must be repeated annually. Training must be approved by the Commissioner.
The applicant and each adult caregiver who provides care for more than 30 days in any 12-month period must complete 6 hours of approved training on "Supervising for Safety."
When children are present, at least one caregiver must be currently trained in CPR and in the treatment of obstructed airways. Training must be in-person, received from an approved CPR instructor, and must be repeated every 2 years.
When children are present, at least one caregiver must be currently trained in first aid. Training must be in-person, received from an approved first aid instructor, and must be repeated every 2 years.
Before a license holder, staff person, or caregiver transports a child under age 9 in a motor vehicle, the person placing the child or children in a passenger restraint must complete training on the proper use and installation of child restraint systems. This training may be used to meet initial or ongoing training requirements. It must be repeated every 5 years. Training must be provided by individuals who are certified and approved by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.
