Medicine Collection Program

Medicine Collection
The Blue Earth County Medicine Collection Program began in December, 2011. Since its inception, 6,370 pounds of medicine have been collected for proper disposal to protect human health and the environment. For calendar year 2015, through November 3rd, 1,347.8 pounds of medicine were collected.

A permanent collection box is located in the lobby of the Sheriff’s Department at the Blue Earth County Justice Center (401 Carver Road, Mankato, MN).

Hours:  8:00 am - 5:00 pm  - Monday - Friday

A 24-hour collection box is located at the Mankato Public Safety Center (710 S. Front Street, Mankato, MN).

Accepted Medicines:

  • Prescription Medications
  • Over-the-counter Medications
  • Narcotics and Other Controlled Substances
  • Medication Samples
  • Pet Medications
  • Vitamins & Supplements
  • Liquid Medication in Glass or Leak-proof Containers (please put in an additional plastic bag)
  • Medicated Ointments and Lotions
  • Inhalers
  • Street Drugs

NOT Accepted:
  • Mercury Thermometers  - Click here for proper disposal instructions
  • Sharps (Lancets, Needles, or Syringes) Click here for proper disposal options
  • IV Bags
  • Bloody or Infectious Waste
  • Hydrogen Peroxide
  • Business Medicines
