Duties & Responsibilities
The Detective Division’s primary duties and responsibilities involve, yet are not limited to, conducting in-depth investigation of crimes against persons and property.

Child Interviews
The division investigates reports of both physical and sexual abuse involving children. Investigations of this nature involve a cooperative effort between the Detective Division and other agencies, such as Human Services' Child Protection team members. Specialized training and procedures are also utilized that have been specifically designed to achieve the most productive child interview. The Sheriff's Office has a "soft" interview room to assist in these investigations.

Investigation & Compliance Checks
The Detective's Division continues to investigate major crimes such as burglaries, physical assaults, homicide, financial and internet crimes, as well as assisting the patrol division when necessary. Members of the division conduct biannual alcohol compliance checks, as well as annual tobacco compliance checks and assist the Minnesota River Valley Drug Task Force and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension with narcotics investigations by providing video and audio surveillance and recording of undercover narcotics purchases. Members of the division routinely conduct complicated criminal investigations for the smaller police departments in the area
