BE WELL: Communities

  • increasing opportunities for everyone to be active through walking and bicycling,
  • increasing access to healthy food, and
  • decreasing exposure to secondhand smoke through smoke-free housing and grounds initiatives.

BE WELL partners in our communities to accomplish this in the following ways:

* Safe Routes to School
* Bicycle/Pedestrian Master Plans
* Land Use Plans/Zoning
* Complete Streets

* Way-finding for People who Walk or Bicycle
Healthy Eating
Farmers' Markets
* Community-Based Agriculture (community gardens & CSA's)
* Emergency Food Systems
* Food Retail (such as in corner stores)
* Menu Labeling in Restaurants, Cafeterias, and Vending
* Local or Regional Food Policy Councils

Tobacco-Free Living
Smoke-free Multiunit Housing
* Smoking Disclosure Ordinances
* Smoke-free Rental Housing Ordinances
* Licensing Requirements
* Smoke-free Insurance Incentives
* Improving the Tobacco Retail Environment to Reduce the Community's Exposure to Tobacco Products
